Ukrainian sculptors Oleh Reznikov and Oleksii Boiko put to view in Kyiv Ukraine’s first sculpture consisting of around 200 cell phones.
The sculpture was put up in Kyiv’s trade and entertainment center Karavan.
Over 20 journalists visited the unveiling ceremony.
The sculpture looks like a multicolored hand holding a ball representing a globe and consisting of metal stripes on which Samsung cell phones of the 1999 – 2007 models are located.
In the opinion of the authors and organizers of this project, it is a kind of visualization of the technological evolution of telephones that converted from a simple communication means into complex multimedia communicators.
The sculpture was created within the framework of the Samsung Mobile image project "Image the whole world in your hands".
According to sculptors, their work took a little more than a month (from early July to early August).
Its creation took 150 – 200 cell phones, 200 kilograms of gypsum and 30 kilograms of metal.
Under the authors’ idea, the sculpture will stay in Karavan for nearly seven months, if visitors of the center do not take it to pieces.
Boiko and Reznikov also noted that all of the phones were in good repair, but put out of order deliberately, so they must not be of any interest theoretically.
Boiko also noted he was very much concerned over the integrity of the sculpture while it was staying in his workshop on Syrets.
"We even covered it with cloth," Boiko said.
Around 20 similar sculpture compositions were installed in the said project frames the world over.
